Financing and Investing for Water Sustainability

As the World is getting warmer, everything is threatening the ecosystems and
environment that is protecting all the vital water resources and limiting access to them even more. Water is not a commodity; it is the life making material and the ingredient everyone is made of. Protecting the environment for the coming generations should begin with more effective water management today. Nowadays, in every nation, there are waterscapes and water foundations that face challenges. We all know that water demands are intensifying, aquifers are getting exhausted and the threat of extreme climate change is accumulating. On the other hand, increased usage of automation and technology are generating disruption to our water bodies.

Our Earth is approximately two-third of water and so is our human body but then where is the water gone? Water has not gone anywhere, whatever quantity of water we had on this planet a million years ago, and it is still there in our atmospheric cosmos but it is just not there, where we need it. Ecology is not a theoretical subject; it is the basis of our existence. We have this accountability that in succeeding years at least at the policy level, all the right things should transpire. In every tropical Nation, there is only one foundation of water i.e. monsoon which can be only stockpiled in the organically rich soil but every nation are running out of good soil
due to the occurrence of desertification at a rapid pace and therefore water insufficiency is there.

India has been always referred to as “Land of seven rivers” but we have more than 700 rivers; a very splendidly veined land in terms of rivers. But, in the last 70 years, there is a severe reduction in our water resources which has stretched to 60% now. Indian farmers with negligible infrastructure just equipped with traditional knowledge and understanding, they are feeding 1.25 Billion people. But, due to grave depletion of soil and water; poor productivity of crops are cumulating. So, water is not the concern, soil is the concern; if the soil has essential organic content in it to hold rainwater, then there is always be water.

So, if we don’t plan for a serviceable population in future, nature will do it in a very
unpleasant way; that we have witnessed in the Covid epidemic.

If water sustainability needs to be accomplished, the foremost entity should be the
financing in the right course by using operative measures on existing resources and funds allocated for the same. Absence of monitoring and attentiveness by the administrators should also be outfitted and must have an eye at the central and local government. Every Nation already has tremendous policies and approaches for the issue; it is just that implementation is at stake. Water equity should be encouraged and specific modifications in the prevailing structure with the mass involvement of private subdivisions are required.

With the conclusion, there were many objectives originated by the United Nations in
2015 as well, which was constructed on the teachings of the last 15 years. This new
methodology had embraced 17 new sustainable development goalmouths which epitomizes a decade of action plan devoted to water and safeguard the sustainable management of water for all by 2030. Many entrepreneurial countries like USA, Russia and Japan are already assisting least developed nations and this water agenda must be put together to safeguard; that each state receives the required technical, governmental, and financial assistance to achieve water security for its populations and their fiscal activities. This majorly comprises financing, associations, capacity edifice, policies and businesses as a facilitator for the change. If not entire Globe but at least region-wise collaboration and mutual procedures are a must and understandably United Nations does not have topographical criteria like our ecology, a period of action is needed on which resolutions made must become guidelines in every Nation.

RESOLUTIONS:-

  1. If we finance in positioning 2.42 Billion trees on every river basin; then in just 12 years nearly trillion liters of water will be produced; which is more than 45% off now. This can also help in growing necessary organic content in the soil to make it productive.
  2. To revive our water bodies, funding should be specified to farmers for agricultural estate (plantation) on one kilometer of either side of every river basin without ploughing.
  3. In African Nations, sponsorships to poor should be programmed to construct a water connection at their residence and a radical intensification in global financing is essential at least 3 times to the current investment.
  4. Transformation of Nations agronomy is required where extensive vegetation should be improved and Agroforestry Horticulture (tree-based agriculture) should be sponsored. If a farmer modifies from regular farming to agroforestry; within seven years his profits would go up to 300% and due to green protection; groundwater will habitually replenish.
  5. Water management department in each nation should be monitored repeatedly with the attentiveness inspection of the funds used and distributed.
  6. Reasonable Micro financing and loans should be approved to the people and every repaid loan can empower another family.
  7. A Nation should also reinforce their partnerships with other institutions that can assist the base of the economic pyramid at system level like private sector associations.
  8. Nations can also seek funding from the water-related activities produced from tourism zone.
  9. Shifting from flood irrigation to Micro-irrigation would make a huge transformation by using the city’s sewage capacity to irrigate agricultural fields. So that, consumption of freshwater can be protected.
  10. Marry ecology with the economy, because people’s involvement will not originate unless there is economic benefit attached to it.
