One of the major and unseen social concerns prevailing in this patriarchal structure is the condition of women. Since ages, women have exerted much harder to make it in this realm; either it’s her profession or her parenting. Empowering women’s economic development is very much necessary; because once women become monetarily self-sufficient, dynamic and productive members of society, maybe she would spend few amounts on herself but she will surely provide foremost assistance to her family, children and men that can progress their quality of life. Thus, women’s financial empowerment benefits everyone. There are various challenges confronted by women in navigating career prospects also because they are fronting the upheavals while upholding her profession and responsibilities at her home simultaneously. To lessen this liability on women, men must take an equivalent unpaid care work and household responsibilities to permit women to take on professional work; then only women can progress in their economic development. And, empowering women in their economic development should be the first step towards gender parity. As an egalitarian realm, women must have esteem, opportunity and atmosphere where they can feel free to express and must get rid of all the communal fences which keep them burdened unnecessarily. We must reduce this burden and should stop undermining anyone’s ability because of their sexual category. Fundamentally, we should not encourage masculinity/ femininity; but humanity because with this everybody will habitually progress.

Angola, a country situated on the western coast of Southern Africa with tremendous variety of tribes, ethnic groups and tradition of Portuguese culture also deals with this patriarchal civilization of overpowering women. This multi ethnic state is also a member of United Nations which unquestionably helps to uplift this underdeveloped African country. After the ruthless instances of Angolan civil war, it was very challenging for the government to shape up the despondent situation of the country especially the progression of the women.

The Angolan Government understood the role of women and made strategies for them so that they can fit in the culture and empowered their participation in all spheres of the social order.

There are many rich and powerful Angolan women, but the average count of the women are struggling for their civil rights. So, many program policies has been adopted by Angolan government such as combating domestic violence, early pregnancies, financial freedom , skill development programs and access to the health care sector and education to uplift Angolan pride i.e. Women. They are being provided with the openings to generate income to support themselves in position of security and well-being. The root cause of these hitches were traditional gender based roles and massive poverty. But now, they are emerging and also participating in politics and civil society. Even their literacy growth rate has been increased from 43.3% to 60.74%. Now, Women in Angola also have several associations of lawyers, journalists, doctors and officers. But, as we know that no society is perfect, therefore, there are many such issues remaining in Angola which needs to be catered and resolved by the Government. The National Development program was also launched by government to ensure the equal opportunities for women and was implemented as a programme for women promotion in the field of various professions and skill enhancement. The skill development programme for women has been launched in several fields like business, communications and engineering. Under the law of cabinet ministry, many networking opportunities has been provided to women which is now ending in the gender biasness at the workplace also throughout Africa and with the efforts of government and other associations like USAID has been a kick start to Angolan economic success and gender equality.

United Nations, which is an intergovernmental organization aims and deals with the maintenance of International security and peace. It helps in creating the ideas and conditions for the countries to curb the situations they are dealing with. Similarly, UN has made several policies for Angolan women for their growth. United Nations Development Program was also espoused by Angola; generally emphasize on poverty mitigation, gender parity and humanitarian assistance. They have also originated the funded training for Angolan women to endorse their skill development. UNESCO and UNICEF have also introduced compulsory education; from which Angolan women can evolve with economic authorization. UNIFEM has also taken the initiative to address the Angolan community in establishing gender integration whereas UNESCO is providing funding for Racine De Paix. As UN is also concerned with the protection of Human Rights, so these organizations are meticulously shielding these rights by doing on ground events and through permissible instruments.

UN women is especially functioning for the development of women and encouraging equal opportunity aspects in employment procedures of Angola. The country has also instructed few strategies related to the depiction of women which is now increased up to 40%. Many other operations have also been launched to prevent outdated practices, violence, gender biasness and many other issues which infringe the privileges of girls and women.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

  1. The present scenario of the Angolan civilization is still male oriented and females are not able to uphold her professional career while supervising motherhood simultaneously. So, I believe that Domestic chores should be performed mutually as a responsibility, and not dumped on women because of their sexual role.
  2. The prejudices held against women are antiquated, and we must shed them to form a vivacious and productive social order for them. This will only happen when everyone in the society is educated.
  3. The policies and strategies made for Women empowerment in Angola should be implemented very seriously and should not lack under any corrupt leadership. Vigilance checking is must on those policies by administrators.
  4. Laws and amendments violation should not be entertained where women are subjugated in this patriarchal civilization.

"Because, where women are respected, divinity flourishes there, and where women are dishonored, all the deeds no matter how principled remains unfruitful."
